Dear Visa,

I apologize for my behavior last month at the Visa office. I'm sorry I held you hostage and attempted to rob the building of 10,000 new credit cards and gift cards. But in my defense, it's your fault. Are you crazy for having such low rates and great benefits and rewards? I'm surprised more people haven't tried to stick you guys up in the past. And those gift cards! They're like plastic crack, that's how addictive they are. I used those gift cards every day of my life. There was not a purchase I made without a Visa gift card. I gave them away as gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, EVERYTHING! Prior to trying to rob the place, I used to order gift cards online. I don't know what possessed me to hold up the building. I guess...that's right, I left my cards at home and just didn't feel like going back home. But, the knife was rubber and the pistol in my pocket was made of Pez. I hope you can all forgive me and I look forward to using your Visa gift cards again...soon.

Dear Prisoner,

Thank you for your apology. But truth be known, I was just about to do the same thing you were with the prepaid Visa gift cards, but you beat me to it. It took guts for you to stick up a federal building with a Playskool knife and a Pez pistol. The cops caught me in the alley putting on my ski mask and arrested me on the spot. Apparently they thought we were together. Now I'm locked up. Those Visa debit cards and gift cards will have you going to prison with all those bargains. Anyway, looking at your cell block number I can see we are cell block mates. Maybe I'll catch you in the courtyard and we can plan a better heist for when we get out.

There are more and more options each day in terms of gift cards. One of the best things about them is that you can spend them wherever credit cards are accepted. But, what do you do if you want a prepaid card for someone who you know will want use it at stores that do not accept Visa or MasterCard (yes, there are a few)? In that case, you might want to think about American Express gift cards, like any other gift card, you can choose the amount that you want to put on the card and it will be accepted everywhere American Express cards are accepted.
